Welcome to Tiverton's Web site.
Tiverton is in Devon England. The name tiverton comes from 'The Town on Two Fords' or otherwise known as 'Twy-Ford-Ton' or 'Twyverton'.
Like its neighbouring town Cullompton (9 Miles) Tiverton early growth is due to the wool trade during the 16th and 17th century.
By the 18th century the wool trade was at its peak and reaching a stage change, mainly due to the industrial revolution. Towards the end of the 18th century, the wool trade was expanding elsewhere leaving Tiverton's woolen industry in decline.
Tiverton is a popular area due to its location being between both Taunton and Exeter (14miles) allowing people to commute easily for employment and a diverse range of entertainment and shops.
Also being based in Devon, there is the tranquility of being near the country side for clean air, and a 1/2 hours drive from a range of beaches.
The River Exe and River Lowman runs through Tiverton Town, which are a local attraction. Much of Tiverton's heritage has been maintained, which can be seen when looking at the range of building designed demonstrating different periods.
Tiverton has recently had the benefit of a large Tesco store being opened.
